You'll be pleased to hear I haven't been trying to fit a new toilet by myself. (although if I did I'd be tempted to use the old one as a garden planter - my parents had TWO of the things in their garden at some point but were total spoilsports and didn't put plants in them) No, this is about the various homemade and apparently 'natural' substances I've plastered myself with today.

Hair things first:

Deep conditioner: mostly olive oil, with a few drops each of peppermint, lavender and lemon oil. These are all meant to be good for making hair a bit thicker. I rubbed some of this into my scalp then brushed it through my hair (nb wash the hairbrush afterwards, certainly before using it on clean hair!). Then I tied it back and went off to make bread - I'd say it was in for 10-15 minutes all things considered. I rinsed it out before shampooing.

Vinegar hair rinse: This is approximately two parts warm water, one part vinegar (I used white wine vinegar because it's what we have, but apple cider vinegar is meant to be better) and a few drops each of lavendar and ylang ylang oil. Lavender because it's all nice and calming, ylang ylang because I like the smell right now. I poured this over my hair after conditioning, then rinsed it out with warm water.

My hair is soft and shiny but feels a wee bit greasy, and isn't quite as 'big' as usual. That's disconcerting. We'll see what it's like in a few days.

Now for other stuff:

Ylang ylang and lavender bath salts: made to the recipe posted yesterday. They dissolved (mostly) and made the water smell nice. Nuff said.

Moisture cream: a huge dollop of semi-solid coconut oil with a few drops of other essential oils. Worked, didn't make me itch, job done.

Deodorant: made with coconut oil, cornflour (corn starch), bicarbonate of soda and essential oils. I have no idea whether this would serve its intended purpose, because it felt so horrible on that I wiped most of it off and reached for the Mitchums. I would love to find a homemade deo recipe that works, but so far no go.

Best thing I ever did was to invest in a big tub of coconut oil. You're right, the stuff is an amazing moisturiser for hair and skin - and no irritation either :). Plus, IvanCat loves to eat it. Leaving lid off pot is inadvisable near animals ;)

Even the Lush solid deodorant isn't great. It's hard to apply and leaves bits everywhere :(. What are those alum rocks that're all over ebay? They look stupidly expensive for what they are, but if they last a long time and work...

Tempted to try the vinge rinse :). So many people have recommended it now! Alas, it'll be with malt vinge, but am not proud *smells like chips*

Fnar, had forgotted about that hell-hole!

Agh, I really can't think of anything that would work other than Mitchum. Certainly nothing that wouldn't leave marks on clothes, anyway (like talc).
